What is open-heel snorkel fins?
What is open-heel snorkel fins?
The open heel design is one that was originally designated as a cold water style which required the use of additional footwear in order to be used. The design of the foot pocket included an adjustable strap which allows for a more customised fit.Wearing this kind of snorkel fins, wet suit boots, water shoes or neoprene socks is required.Though known as cold water fins, these are also suitable for warm water use as well, but appropriate footwear is needed.
I was super impressed with these when I used them filming a YouTube video here recently on scalloping! They propelled me through the water with ease and worked great for diving. They cut down on leg fatigue from snorkling/scalloping in the ocen all day long too. I was a little worried to start with about getting blisters using them barefooted since I had never used fins for a long period of time before, but they fit and worked great without any need for water socks. It was like they were an extention of my own foot, and I almost forget they are there until you get out of the water, and we stayed out all day long. I can't wait to use these again on more adventures I have planned here shortly. They were a great buy for snorkeling!!
My strap broke on my second dive. I was really disappointed because they are very comfortable. Thankfully, I was sent a replacement strap at no cost! Communion was great and they were very focused on fixing my issue.
I used these for snorkeling mostly. Have yet to use them deep diving however I plan on it and believe they will perform great.
First love the color, item was well made. I'm size 14 narrow and the fins fit with the diving shoes. I purchased the matching mask. Recommended. ohh the fins are light weight and come with a carrying bag.
I brought these with me on a trip to Hawaii without testing them. During setup, I pulled on the black heel strap not knowing you have to ALSO HAVE THE BLACK CLIP PUSHED DOWN, RELEASING TENSION ON THE STRAP. The black plastic sizing clip cover (see photo) immediately broke and there was no replacement. I happened to have a thick black hair tie with me that when unclipped, I wrapped around the folded strap and heel piece to keep it from moving. After that I clipped it back and used it with no issues. I could still adjust the sizing from the other side.
I was mad at myself for not checking out the clip before, irritated they were immediately broken (not gorilla proof) but thankful I McGyver'd them and enjoyed using them after that. When I reached out to the manufacturer about getting a replacement clip cover, they only offered to sell me the entire heel piece in this link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09CD7FTPR.
The learning lessons are:
1. To adjust the size of the heel piece, first unclip it. Push on the tension clip AT THE SAME TIME you move the strap to the size you want. You can do this on the left and right side. I find it's easiest to push that tension clip, adjusting the size when it's unclipped from the fin.
2. Keep hair ties around just in case that tension clip top pops off so you can fix and keep going.
